چکیده

This paper presents the study of crushed sandstones wastes (CSW) aiming at their utilization as main materials for base layer flexible pavements with series geotechnical laboratory tests contained in American Society Testing and Materials adopted evaluations. The conducted included particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, compaction characteristics, California bearing ratio, unconsolidated undrained compressive strength, free swell index one-dimensional consolidation tests. Statistical analyses using proprietary computer software were used to investigate spatial variations data, degrees relationships that exist among tested parameters. From results, limits revealed intermediate plasticity less than 35% fines (percentage passing No. 200 British Standard sieve) majority samples; an indication good highway materials. relatively high maximum dry density, low optimum moisture content shear strength recorded by CSW proved usability most road projects such sub-base subgrade. indicators evaluate validity pavement showed cohesion values satisfy requirement greater 103 kN/m2 specified course empirical correlations verified influence on parameters gave a general overview behaviors examined quarry wastes. Therefore, are adjudge suitable but order achieve long term gain stability especially volume applications, stabilizations will be required.

Evaluation of Geotechnical Properties of Local Clayey Soil Blended with Waste Materials

Nowadays, disposal of waste materials has become a matter of serious concern due to environmental and ecological issues. In this paper, an attempt is made to determine an optimum proportion mix suitable for geotechnical applications by blending the locally available clayey soil with sand, fly ash, tile waste and jute fibers. This optimum mix provides a cheaper construction material and helps in...

Food Shortages, Survival Strategies and the Igbo of Southeastern Nigeria during the Nigeria Civil War

War as an acceptable component of intergroup relations is usually resorted to when every other option may have failed. This is given its usually devastating consequences on both individuals and groups. To a great extent the thirty-month Nigerian Civil War practically devastated the Igbo food economy and in particular its food production systems. However, given the need to survive, especially un...
